This was an old student accommodation block the 12th and 13th floors required strengthening from the underneath but the problem was the allowable load bearing was very low only 2.5km/m. We spliced each steel into three pieces to lower it through a 600mm square hole in the roof. Each part in turn landed on two bogeys to keep the bearing pressure down before being nursed under its final position to be hoisted with six genies to the underside of the overhead ceiling. These were set down to accommodate the roof bow then shimmed up locally.

The whole job was undertaken completely safely without incident.
